Why Your Website Isn’t Showing Up on Google — and What Actually Fixes It

You launched your website, and then… nothing. You search for your own business and can’t find it. It’s one of the most common and frustrating experiences business owners have. The reasons are usually straightforward once you know where to look. Here’s what’s likely going on.

1. Your site is too new

Google takes time to discover and trust a new website. If you launched recently, some patience is normal — but there’s plenty you can do to speed things along rather than just waiting.

2. Google doesn’t know what your pages are about

If your pages don’t clearly signal what you do and who you serve, Google struggles to match you to searches. Clear titles, descriptions, and content aimed at what your customers actually type in make a real difference.

3. You’re not targeting the right terms

Sometimes a site is optimised for words no one searches, or for terms so competitive that established players dominate. Choosing realistic, relevant search terms is half the battle.

4. Technical issues are blocking you

Occasionally a site is accidentally telling search engines not to list it, or it’s so slow and broken that Google deprioritises it. These are fixable once identified.

5. There’s no ongoing content or authority

A static site that never adds anything and that no one else links to gives Google little reason to rank it. Fresh, useful content and genuine mentions from elsewhere build the authority that lifts you up the results.

What actually moves the needle

Real SEO isn’t a magic trick — it’s making sure your site is technically sound, clearly about the right things, and steadily building useful content and authority over time. Beware anyone promising instant number-one rankings; that’s a red flag. If you’re invisible on Google and don’t know why, a proper review will pinpoint exactly what’s holding you back — and it’s often a handful of fixable issues.
